About Us
Nocona is a city along U.S. Highway 82 and State Highway 175 in Montague County, Texas with a population of about 3,000 people. Over the last several years, Nocona has seen an increase in stray and abandoned dogs. Most of these unwanted dogs have not been spayed or neutered, which continues the cycle of unwanted, homeless dogs in our community. Nocona acted, and established a modern animal shelter. In 2016, Lucky Paws acquired its non-profit status, and the City of Nocona graciously donated land for a new shelter. On January 6, 2017, Nocona Lucky Paws opened its doors to a new, modern and humane animal shelter. This shelter has ten large indoor/outdoor kennels, three large outdoor runs and three outside kennels for overflow. This provides the animals with protection from the weather elements, as well as a nice, comfortable overall atmosphere.

A big thanks to the City of Nocona for donating the land, and the large group of dedicated animal lovers and veterinarian volunteers that made the new shelter a reality!
Lucky Paws has a policy that all animals have recommended vaccinations and spay/neuter procedures performed before they are adopted into their "furr-ever home." Our euthanasia policy will be that only animals euthanized will be those with severe health issues or serious behavior problems. These policies help control the dog population in Nocona with additional medical benefits to the animals.
